[Resolved] Thank you Rudy and the forum for helping me get an unban.
---------------------------
(archive)
I know that this may not be the correct place to put this. But don't ban me from here too right now. I just want to say what has happened lately and how my banning netban from ssc was wrongful.

I was playing at trenchwars for about 99% of the time in ssc. I was playing one day and playing a practice game of hockey. I got off and then got back on to recieve the message:
Quote:
You are banned from SSC network till 2007-12-09 9:10 GMT+0 BanId #2099...

I then sent a ban dispute form questioning why I was banned. I had no idea. Then I found out it was for "cheating." This made no sense so i updated the ban form saying i was sure i did not cheat. However the reply was similar to- Mods of SSC saw you do stuff that is impossible to do with out cheating.

I can not believe this. I did not vommit these crimes. I do not know specifically what I am accused of. So here I find a decription of cheating from SSC Network Ban Policy.
Quote:
Cheating - Performing any action that an unmodified client is
incapable of performing. Developing, distributing, or promoting
cheat software. Minimal 90 day net ban for first offence.

And I am absolutely sure i did not modify the client, use any software, or cheat at all. i did not cheat or be rude ingame either. Yet i still remain banned here for 1 year.

Is this fair? To be banned for a year for something you did not do and without a specific example? That is what i ask you.

All i want is to be unbanned someday and for people to understand i tell the truth.

And if you do not like the presence of my topic here, do not ban me. simply review it and decide what it means. move it or lock it if you must. i want someone to understand me.

thank you,
kirby145

I already explained that i filed an SSC ban dispute form but the response was:

Mods said you were doing things impossible without cheating.

This IS NOT true. I just explained that. and so i am saying how the ban dispute is not going well

i'd just wait out the year ban. you aren't going to get anywhere by filling out pointless fucking forms and moaning that you didn't do anything wrong.

You are on a dead track if your dispute got denied. Your only chance is to contact the one who banned you from TW.
This forum won't help you anyhow.

Agreed. This forum is full of people who know how to do things, who, in a cruel twist of fate, are not the people who run things.

Wrong, this forum is filled with people who don't care. However, the people who run the game don't care either, so it's a loose loose situation.

Thank you fo this information. Even in a world where there's people who don't give this BDWinsAlt has been the most helpful to me.

Now that i know what i am accused of there needs to be some sort of solution or explanation for this. I can say it is possibly a game glitch or error, seeing as the clients are "prereleases." I 100% guarantee i did not modify client or use any other program. Client glitch is my suspicion. By the way what's a proxinty? People always said "prox..."

My only guess is a glitch. if anyone has an explanation to solve this such as

I would be most grateful. and thank you to the people who have helped so far.

Code: Show/Hide
Serv. Error: (null) (#kj76gf4s): Illegal green: Proximity (kirby145)(106831xxxx)(66.248.xx.xx)(sec=3452)
Having been a while since I've run subgame, illegal green warning occurs when he shoots a weapon with proximity and prox=0/buyprox=0, or does it occur when someone picks up the green? The #kj76gf4s threw me off for a weird tick, as I don't remember what that spot (or the null one) usually displays.

I looked into if the subarena is incorrectly setup and allowed saved ships (ie: go to arena with prox, change arenas from safety zone, boom, fully loaded shit with illegal stuff). But the main arena and elim are both setup correctly.

I can say that it isn't a client glitch. It being "prerelease" does not mean buggy, it means that the coder fixed a previous bug, and sent it out for testing to zone owners. He then got a very involved deal going with Skype, and lost interest with Continuum. So, it has been that same version for the past, what 2 years now?

Any reason why you are posting from a computer not even linked with the one you got banned from? Colorado and North Carolina are not exactly that close to each other.

Unless you are dialing 1800 numbers of it, going from a 66.248.0.0/17 block to a 4.0.0.0/8 block is a huge change. Both of those IP numbers fall under different companies, but PeoplePC could just be renting IPs from under them.

Any other aliases you've used in an SSC zone in the past month?

EDIT: It isn't a dialup/transfer glitch. Each packet is encrypted and has a built in checksum. UDP packets are also checksummed. Having all three of those get corrupted and to produce a valid packet is extremely rare (ie: 1 out of 10^200 type rare).

ok, seeing as i don't have explanation, can you answer:

What are the only possible ways this could have happened...?

Edit: more guesses
1. excessive cpu usage
edit edit: i listen to music while i play sometimes
a. in-computer errors
2. virus
3.corrupt d-load

Have any friends that know your password? Have any friends that may have access to your computer and play Continuum and wanted to play a joke under your name?

From what I've gotten from those that saw the warnings and the person who banned you, while in the subarena elim in Trench Wars, you ran over a green and got the proximity (prox for short) prize. This causes your bombs to explode near an enemy and not just through a direct hit. Almost all non-one-shot-kill zones use prox with their bombs.

Since it was greened, your client sends out a "I just picked up a proximity green" packet to the server. It normally would forward to others, saying that prize was picked up (and in some zones, your teammates would also get the prize). But in this case, the zone saw that the setting to get a proximity green is disabled. Which means that no prizes should ever be that one. So it sends out a sysop warning to all online staff members saying "this guy is probably cheating, he just got a prize that is impossible to green." Staff sees that, and bans you.

Another good data and explanation.

Yet

Why is this happening to me?????

Processor usage doesn't matter. Continuum usually attempts to eat as much processor power as you have available. If your processor is not giving it much, your frame rate goes down, which makes the game hop around. But, all physics/packets are not effected by this, only graphics. If it stays around too much, you'll lag out of the game, because your computer cannot respond fast enough. But it wouldn't cause corruption of data.

Viruses that would ever target Continuum would just steal your account name. There have never been any that do anything else. If a generic virus infects Continuum, Continuum wouldn't run in the first place, as it has self checks to prevent users for modifying it. So it wouldn't be that.

Corrupt download is the same as virus. Self-checks wouldn't let it run, but if it did, it would display on the server as a checksum error, not a weird green error.

The only accidental way I see for this happening is if you happened to lose a specific packet when entering the arena, and before that packet could be resent, you ran over a green. But, you'd need to be entering from a different subarena that did allow prox bombs. From what I gathered, there are not that many in Trench Wars as it is. This is techinically possible, but with you on dial-up, even under heavy lag, you would only have a one second window at most to do this. And to lose a specific packet, to come from a rare subarena that allows prox bombs, all while an elimination event is not currently running, is rare, but possible.
