Well apart from 7zip being the best file compressor is there anything that can compress even SMALLER? I dont care how long it takes to compress/extract I just want to know what program can compress the smallest amount possible.

I dont mind buying the software was long as it really works.

Thnx for your suggestions in advance (btw tried winrar and zip)

7zip is the best i've seen. if you choose ultra compression it takes a long time though

lzip is the fastest compressor and is able to get the file down to almost any size you want. You can even lzip an lzip'ed file to create even smaller files.

But I'd still recommend 7zip for the smallest thing. If you are trying to compress specific file types, there can be better options, but general case, 7zip is very high on the list. Want more details? Maximum Compression.com.

That's misleading, the lzip decompression algorithm has not advanced to the point where it can correctly restore the archive to its original (pre-compressed) state.

But it can compress them very well, and that's all he asked for.

Maybe my firefox search is bugged, but there's no reference to lzip on that page, and the title of "Lossless data compression software benchmarks / comparisons" makes me think that it's not an accident.

Oops. Didn't read the very bottom. ;o KGB is still pretty good, although I personally prefer sticking with WinRAR.

I once had a Red Alert 2 Installer file that clocked at around 4 MB and after about a hour or two of decompressing puked out the entire 200MB (I think it was? been long time ago) of the ripped game.
I wish I still had it, so I could see which cracking group managed to condense it like that.

And no, it didn't connect anywhere to d/l files from.
It was really an extraction process.
It listed it on a DOS window as it went by like any old extractors and I was offline at the time.
