Lol.
Just use the lvz to tile it, rather than using an image editor to tile it. Someone made a program called TileMajic (I think it was SOS) to do what you want. Hunt around and see if you can't find it.
If you can't find a program to do it, just use a spreadsheet. _________________ Hyperspace Owner

If you take say a 256x256 clip of that image that's only 260K (in 32-bit color). Tile the image over the whole map using LVZ. The image only appears once in the file. The LVZ file will contain the locations where the image will be displayed. Once packed into an LVZ it should be less than 270K total size. _________________ 4,691 irradiated haggis!

If the image is 256x256, then you need to use LVZ to place it at:
0,0
256,0
512,0
768,0
...
0,256
256,256
512,256
768,256
...
0,512
256,512
512,512
768,512
...
etc
To cover the entire map space, you would need to place the image 64x64 (4096) times.

you can do it using the autotile feature in the newest version of CLT too.

does doing so use up a lot of memory? like say you wanted to make grass and dirt. (ie a baseball diamond)? or would it be easier to just change the background stars and whatnot. kinda to the effect of what paintball has but i'm not sure what effect they are using.

It uses as much memory as all of the raw BMP images use. If you put down 1 image 100 times, it only uses the memory for 1. Note that using GIF/JPG/etc for image formats does not help memory, because all images are converted into BMP's at load time.
