Ok, can anyone advise me on creating a zone purely for development purposes? the guides seem to show you the way of getting your zone online, i'd just like to be able to use it offline?

Whats the best way to do it?

Thanks for any help

There are no playing or development modes.
As well essentially, there is no difference between running your server offline or online.
One simply need go a certain length to either allow their zone to be accessible online or otherwise to prevent outside access while allowing a select few.
If you are behind a router, good chances you will remain inaccessible to the outside world by default, unless taken those extra procedures.

You may also, at server.ini under [directory] leave the IP= variable empty, and as such, your zone will not be listed on the directory server (so unless you tell someone your zone exist, its IP and port, they may not know of it/will not be able to connect to it).

If you require specific help in setting the server up and entering the zone, please proceed posting further details herein.

Simply: just leave the Directory:IP setting blank.

Wouldn't setting the server.ini server ip to 127.0.0.1 and adding custom zone in continuum work as well?

ServerIP has nothing to do with actually connecting to the zone. As it says in the comment, it's used for proxy detection.

And of course you have to add a custom zone, too. Taking it off the directory servers simply prevents others from seeing it.

If you want it to be more private (in case someone, somehow finds out the zone's IP and port), set PermissionMode=1 under [Misc] in server.ini, create a permit.txt in your server folder, and add your name onto that. That'll make it so only the people on permit.txt may enter the zone.

you dont have to change any settings just at the zone download list click add custom, add the ip as 127.0.0.1 and port as what it is in your zone, the name doesent matter,

do that if when you are online you dont want people to see it. no need to change settings
