i tried doing *putfile lots.lvl but it said it cannot be found..is there a place i have to put the lots.lvl file in? if so where?

In the same folder as your Continuum.exe file. For safety reasons, get/putfile only can transfer files to/from the same folder as Continuum.exe itself.

Still dosn't work. the default one. _bzw.lvl works. but maybe becuase under the icon it says LVL file and for my file it says SSME File?

can you open the map with SSME? (Subspace Map Editor)
also, check that the name is correct in the *putfile and the file name.
