First, boot up in safe mode and see if you can undo whatever you did just so you can use your computer for the time being.
Just hit F8 a lot when it's booting up and when you get a list, do boot in safe mode with network.
Once you've got the resolution set back to what it was, go ahead and reboot normally (not safe mode).
Now, update your monitor driver. (and graphics card, may as well)
Now, next time the screen goes black, just wait 15 seconds for it to switch back. |

Properties > Settings > Screen Area - just lower it (1280x1024 is usually safe, but 800x600 should be absolutely safe) |

Using system restore isn't the best way to fix problems, and since there are some things making it all worse I even disabled it.
Anyway, just run through the "New connection" wizard, set your computer up for the LAN.
If you have some router running DHCP (most do) it should assign the right information to your ethernet card so you can get on the web through it. |

Pfft, that custom title is lame (I guess MGB did it, not sure if moderators can change user titles too).
Meh, ah well, who cares.
Good luck. |

would seem unlikely, since Mine also likes Gentoo, as do most intelligent people that don't want to bother with straight up LFS |

GOOD GAME.
Anyway, I think my next primary computer won't be a windows box, and if I keep liking Gentoo like this it will be Gentoo'd. |
