Boot into save mode,
Run Spybot, Ad-Aware and HijackThis again.
Check msconfig for startup programs you don't know. And disable them if you're unsure.

They're just starup entries... It won't break your system just because you deleted them.
You can check what they are with google.
Or just enable the "Start on Windows startup" in all the programs you had run again.

Startup Control Panel is much better as it shows every startup type, and also works on all the Windows systems. |

Does the Microsoft Startup Inspector come with a cool animated image of a spy with a rotating magnifying glass? If it does, I'll start using it! _________________ This help is informational only. maybe it was actually a malicious program masquerading as anti-virus, or perhaps you're just making it up _________________

Or maybe the explorer.exe was really some nasty file and you saw it as the real explorer.exe and now you're still infected with some malicious program.
Or, whatever, me no cares. |

Umm, I guess I should make sure you know this: I was being sarcastic. Explorer.exe is an important part of Windows, I was just implying that Windows itself is a virus. |

I think I saw a PC running some other explorer.exe (next to the real M$ one), which was actually a virus, heh, that's what I was talking about. |

If you're running Windows95/98/ME you can also try running:
Start->Run->"scandisk c: /n /o"->Ok
Did it on a school pc once, it's fun.
Scandisk can't really do anything bad, can it?
