Post subject: hosting question
What qualification do I need to host?
Do I need to pay for the hosting server?
Do I need to turn on my computer all the time for the running server?

You need a really fast computer... depends on how many zones and people playing in the zones. A nice 2.5 ghz with a gig of ddr ram would hold guite a bit of load from the server.. You need a fast internet connection.. not cable, you need something like maybe a T1 T2 or T3 internet connection that has a fast download and upload time. The computer has to be one all of the time otherwise there is nothing to run the server and then noone could use it. Also you might want to not use the comp while the zone is running as to the load will cuase Slow Iterlation errors. Most zones run off of high performace servers with a T3 conection...

A good computer with a very fast connection, or access to one. Most of the bigger zones run off a dedicated server, I think, which means that they don't do anything other than subspace.

Not if you have your own. Any PC can host, you just need one that's fast enough (cpu, ram, and net connection). You'd still have to pay for internet access (bandwidth).

Whatever computer subgame.exe (or subbill.exe) is running on must be on all the time. If the computer's off, it can't host.

Hope this helps. if you have access to a lot of bandwidth, there are a lot of zones out there hurting for it right now. you might want to get in touch with their sysops. if not, well, this is academic, then, isn't it? icon_wink.gif
