Trash Talk - ASSS - Suggest some Names

Post subject: ASSS - Suggest some Names
ASSS can be sort of said as a bad word. Continuum sounds cool, and the new server software needs a better name than subgame3, though ASSS sounds nice.

Any suggestions? Please note that the naming choice is left up to Grelminar, since it is his baby, so naming it after yourself won't work. Find a cool word in a dictionary that relates to what it is, like Continuum means "A continuous extent, succession, or whole, no part of which can be distinguished from neighboring parts except by arbitrary division." (dictionary.com) That relates very well as in how Continuum is meant to be exactly like SubSpace, just better. Names should mean something (ASSS does mean something: A Small Subspace Server).

i always thought it was just a nifty name that Priit made up...

how about Erudite...
a name for subgame? we win users just arent the well-creatively endowed high-aesthetic bunch are we?

how about quark
or maybe...maybe i should shut up now. Subgame 3 sounds so appropriate... its just nerds running this, right? shouldnt we be consistent?

Well, you could also do something like greek heroes or something:

Bellerophon
Perseus
Theseus
Ajax
Agamemnon
Achilles <--not a great name for a server, but I put it here anyway

why does it need a name? i agree ASSS will evoke a certain giddiness in adolescents for its entire existence, but do we need something catchy? perhaps a very descriptive, clear name would be more purposeful than one that is flashy or entertaining.
perhaps "Continuum Server Terminal" or something more dry and bland is in order. the last thing we want is confusion, right? another acronym starting with SS or having just about as much face value as one of my posts icon_wink.gif may only serve to aid the confusion. as it is SSME, SSTE, SSLE, CLE, FACTS, are about as condusive to being understood as a russian mute in india...

ditto, but maybe even more descriptive

Subspace Dolly Server
Dolly Subspace Server

Well, if we were going for that, we would need a redundant acronym, sorta like GNU.

Everyone's just calling it Grels Server, so just call it something like GrelServe.

why do we need a fancy name, its not like prospective players will be hooked by the name of the server software

Fancy names are cool.
Duh.

its why CTM is stil refered to as SS.

Actually i think contnuum is more referred to as subspace, since most of the people who enjoy it so much started playing when it was called subspace. Since it is almost an exact clone, it still feels like subspace.

Well, i would almost call Starcraft warcraft if it wasn't the fact they just changed some of the guys over into space themes.

Yes, that's the best one I've heard yet... it's not much of a change and little 8 year olds won't be giggling/laughing/chuckling/whatever at it.

Its still a SubSpace server, as that is the game and protocol's name. Continuum is just a replacement client. Think of it like this:

AOL made their own IM client. They call it AIM. Others, such as Miranda, Gaim, etc also support AIM in it, but they are different clients. They still are on the AIM network, and you can call it AIM, but you are using a different client to get the same effect pretty much.

So ASSS is still a valid name.
