General Questions - Web based Subgame INI checker

Post subject: Web based Subgame INI checker
Dustpuppy and I wrote (and we're still writing) a web based subgame INI checker.

It allows people to select the files or paste their content, then it checks the files for common mistakes and gives fix suggestions back.

As you'll be able to see it fixes the following:
I put a beta version [Project offline, shut down].
Please post comments or suggest fix additions here.

I hope this can soon stop the annoying "my zone is red whut to do!!!!?!???!????" posts. icon_smile.gif

Omg! icon_smile.gif I was beginning work on a CFG checker :/ but I'm pretty sure those are mostly outdated since continuum handles over the max values...

Heh, we started a few weeks ago, well, it was kind of done within a day, but we put the parts together today. icon_razz.gif

Not bad, stealing my spotlight and all. *evil glare*

Actually, it's good, I'm sure people will be able to figure this out a lot better than my program...

BTW, the directory server list it sets has only 2 valid entries.

Haha, I didn't have your checker in mind when I got the idea. icon_razz.gif

Anyway, I took the dir. server list from the default INI, already thought not all of those were valid.

Changed it to "sscentral.subspace.inet.fi,sscentral.subspacehq.com".
Thanks for notifying. icon_biggrin.gif

Remember, there are sscentral dir listings as well now...

Yeah, I saw some post on that <ahem> other forum today about them, just didn't feel like telling here. icon_razz.gif

ANYWAY, I'll update them soon, and I'll see if I can add some more features to it.

Add a warning if the zone name begins with SSC. Add a warning if Billing:LogMessages=1. Assure the users that you aren't lifting passwords. Also the error message should say something like 'found x errors out of a possible y'.

Don't you need to check zone.dat too? Otherwise the zone will have a ping (not just green, I set my ping to graphs) briefly then go red.

I wonder if you just delete Directory:Port will subgame use 4991 as default anyway?

Wtf that's what I put in when I made it

There were more in it, look at what you gave me...

'sscentral.subspace.inet.fi,sscentral.ds98.com,sscentral.subspacehq.com,sscentral.subspace.net'

Cyan just said only 2 of those were valid, I checked which of those were still valid and removed the others, k? icon_razz.gif

I'll see what I can do with your suggestions, Smong.
The check for port 4991 in Directory:Port is there for people who change it to their subgame or billing port (or even something else), I think we've seen that here before.

I added all your suggestions, but what do you mean with this

?

The zone.dat is a use-specific modification. You don't need to modify it if your router is setup correctly. (It'll just do a loopback.)

If Cyan~Fire is right, I have a naff router. Because I need to manually edit zone.dat to contain the LAN/local IP of my server.

Because the .php is coded to automatically look for errors, there isn't somebody sitting at a desk waiting for people to submit the form.
Solo Ace - Fri Jul 23, 2004 8:28 am
Post subject:
Yes it is a form.
The data you paste or upload there get saved on the webserver, the files are opened to check them, the scripts output fixes, close and delete the files.

No data - as you can read on the privacy page - gets recorded.

Why would we (Dustpuppy and I) be interested in someone's newbie zone's passwords?

Many people just pasted their INI files on these forums and asked us to check them, this INI checker is supposed to automate the fixing.
The user doesn't have to post here, and we don't have to help.

Using this INI checker is the same as posting your INI files here and ask people to fix it for you, the difference is that nobody gets to read it there and it's a lot faster and easier.

I quit the game and Dust can get powers whenever he wants in a bunch of SSC zones, why would we want to record passwords of servers we don't even want to know about?

If you're really paranoid, you shouldn't be running a zone. icon_razz.gif
Well, you can let the fixer process it, and then change your passwords.

The files just get deleted, if I didn't let them get deleted it'd take up too many space, and there's just no reason to keep them.

I don't know why I made this post so long, I just don't want you to think I'm naughty. icon_razz.gif

I don't see why people can post their INIs here, and not paste it there.
It's not like posting some creditcard number. icon_confused.gif

Just for the "record", or whatever you want to call it: I stopped working on this "project", and I'm probably not going to put any more time into it than dumping it somewhere on a CD which I'll never put back into any drive again.

If anyone of us two would be the slave here, it would be you.

I don't see the point in hosting it and keeping it running.
Newbies wouldn't be able to find it so it wouldn't help us keeping them away from asking their connection/ini problems here, it sucked and it didn't do much more than filtering 13 mistakes from the ini files.
Also, it takes time to make it look acceptable, it takes time to keep it running.
So, it takes time which I don't have, well, I do at some times of weeks, but I want to spend that time to less boring things.
