1) Don't put BMPs up on the internet, use PNG.

2) The message is normal, but I don't know why it's repeating. If it's not slowing down the bot, I'd just leave it.

PNG is for wimps.
Use GIF or JPEG.
But the rule still stands, never ever post bmp screenshots!
It's asking for a mob justice, and they don't give trials.

GIFs are patented, so free apps cant use them. JPGs are fine for pictures. PNGs are awesome.

But, as grav said, BMPs just plain suck. There are over a bazijillion programs to convert BMPs to other formats. Or, save yourself a step and just do everything in the GIMP to start with.

Why would you use GIF when PNG is just as good quality, more compressed, and free?

...and the NAME is sexier...PNG! ....not gif lol what a fag name...nono, PNG!

No one has ever done anything against people using GIF, and if they dare they'll suffer more than RIAA.
In addition GIF has been a standard around the online world before you even reached pubirty.
And PNG isn't as great as they make it, sometimes even uncompatible or screwed.

Incase you haven't bothered checking your banners, they're almost all GIFed.

I'd use .png, but everybody seems to like to alternate background colors and IE doesn't like the transparency sa_tongue.gif

Funny, my IE doesn't have any problem with transparency on GIFs.

Actually, the LWZ patent on GIFs ran out earlier this year. PNGs still blow GIFs out of the water.

IE? You mean people still use IE? Mozilla Firebird 4 life.

was referring to .png's and transparency (and IE)

I have yet to see one image that PNG wouldn't do better than gif in that situation, excluding animated stuff, because almost no one supports MNG.

Wanna see why not everything is PNG yet? Its all IE's fault. Once they get the alpha channel working correctly, PNGs will take over.

mozilla messes up the look on some sites :~\
Dr Brain - Tue Dec 16, 2003 9:14 pm
Post subject:
Actually thats not true. The site messes itself up when it sees firebird coming.

But honestly, I stopped using IE a long time ago (probably more than 6 months ago), and in that time, I have run across 1 (count it, one) page that I had to open in IE. And that was a malformed shopping cart for a company that canceled my order anyway.

Any professional site, or anything designed in a WYSIWYG editor will display without problems in the Gecko renderer. Only HTML that drop tags and has funky nesting will behave differently on different browsers. And thats no feature of IE, it just happens that different browsers handle undefined situations differently.
SuSE - Tue Dec 16, 2003 9:42 pm
Post subject:
yes, typically mozilla does not mess up websites, really crappy coding messes them up and IE is just so crappy it often doesn't mind really crappy coding (or indeed promotes it)

...wow this thread isn't supposed to be about this at all sa_tongue.gif

Why don't you lazy bums go and code a 32bit library that replaces DX and then I and game devs won't have to use anything MS at all and can use linux instead, hmm?

Talk is cheap, actions worth paychecks.

And I could care less about mozilla (reminds me the name of a butter, a very smelly one).

This is general forum, not netscape lecture class.
Leave your oppinions at home or move to the trash talk.

I think there is a post in trash talk that links to a website that tells you how to use "style" (css?) to set the alpha channel of a .png in IE.

Also parts of the Symantec website require IE or NS apparently. But I'm not buying any more of their software so it doesn't matter.

Netscape is derrived from Mozilla. But I find that hard to believe.

Symantec bites

and that thing to get .png alpha's to work in IE is over here...
