Ya, tell us when you figure it out.

sort of obvious I think
each pixel acts as a frame of the animation for the energy bar or part of the bullet trail

Figured out most of it...
Line 1: high energy bar 'animation'. Every pixel is 10ms or so...
Line 2: less than half energy
Line 3: low energy
Line 4: lvl1 bullet trail anim. (the left most pixel is nearers to bullet, and right most furthest away from bullet)
Line 5: lvl2 bullet trail anim
Line 6: lvl3 bullet trail anim
Line 7: ??? I have no idea what this is... Couldn't figure it out.. Anyone knows?
Line 8: Hmm.. Not used? As it is black... Doesn't seem to effect anything.
Also noticed that top left (0,0) pixel controls the color of narrow 'bar' just above energy bar (separated by transparent/black gap between it them).

Line 7 sounds like L4 bullet trails to me. Line 8 sounds like future-proofing it, so if a new line needed to be added, can just add colors without much else changing. Thank you for your work.

Yeah, I was thinking of that too.. It's prolly Lvl4 bullets trail. But I just can't remember how do I get L4 bullets.
Even *super gives only lvl3 bullets.
I also thought it might have been trails for bouncing bullets or shrapnels but nope.
Sharpens always uses L3 weapon trails, no matter what level the shrapnel itself is. And boucing bullets uses same as normal weapon.
But can anyone tell how I can get those L4 weapons? If there really is way to get them.

Get level 3 equipment and then pick up a flag or two...

burts != L4
Maybe the last line is the "padding" around the enrgy bar. Wehn it lowers, something may have to go in the dark spots. Or just something similar like that.

man, if you guys want to figure something mysterious out, find out why there are two frames for the healthbar image

The health bar flashes between the two images when your low. I found that out when i made my pacman game about 2 years ago. I don't know if continuum does it anymore, but it did with VIE.

It must have been left out, because Akai and I both found the second frame to be useless. Bummer.

Using the subtle energy bar can give you a 20fps boost anyway.

ya, and the subtle one doesn't look totally lame

Thanks for help.
The seventh line was L4 bullets as thought. That only leaves the 8th line without explanation... Prolly it was left there for future use. But most likely it will never be used as in future gradient.bm2 will be gone, as it going to move into colors.bm2 as far as I know).
And yeah, the energy bar animation does not work. I think it was mentioned when CTM .35 came out.
I attached my gradient image if anyone wants to see.. Nothing special on it tho.
