LVZ/LVL Questions - Jpegs Samapico - Fri May 09, 2003 6:17 pm Post subject: Jpegs
I tried something out with jpeg pics... Those are 15% compressed jpegs... The result was that the lvz with jpeg pics was bigger than the one with bmp and bigger than the jpeg files themselves... wtf?
539k: total size of jpeg files
568k: size of lvz with .37 buildlevel
1.06 megs: size of lvz with .38 buildlevel
778k: size of same lvz with .bmp pics instead

Try posting the .ini that DeBuildLevel creates for each one. Will show compression of each file, and will tell if you happen to include a file more than once.

Just as a side comment, the only good use for the new jpg/gif support (that I can think of) is to convert all the graphics in your graphics folder to save space. All the other graphics from zones are already compressed (in their .lvz), so it doesn't really matter what format you use (as compressing twice doesn't have much effect).

That's right... the debuild ini says that each file has been compressed at least 2 times... (one of them is there 5 times... that same file is used as 4 different IMAGE# with different anim. period, that's probably why..)
That means.. each file is compressed as a File= AND as a IMAGE#... that's strange รด.0
Is the way to use jpegs as IMAGE# the same as with .bmp's??
BTW I tested that lvz and it works correctly... but it's still bigger than it should be Mine GO BOOM - Tue May 13, 2003 11:04 pm Post subject:
When i built that ini with all the File= commented out, it worked without problem. I recommend you redownload the lvztoolkit.zip.
Samapico - Wed May 14, 2003 5:08 pm Post subject: OK, i redownloaded the lvztoolkit and it works fine (now have 540k lvz instead of 830k with bitmaps )
BUT... (another problem... )
I get an error when I try to debuild it...
Could not correctly decompress data
Exiting from file D:\Workspace\WarperLvlMaker\BuildLevel\Main.cpp, line 173
And it works fine in continuum Mine GO BOOM - Wed May 14, 2003 10:51 pm Post subject:
Email that lvz to me at lvz@minegoboom.com with the subject "Debuildlevel bug"
