Post subject: hosting using wine in linux (subgame subbill)
I have a few questions.

ive got my little zone hosted on windows.
-downloaded server14.zip
-configured the server.ini
-configured the subbill.ini
-ran subbill then ran subgame

everything checked out...opened SS and manually added my zone and it worked like a champ in windows

I need to host this on linux though

http://forums.minegoboom.com/viewtopic.php?t=6592

i keep reading through the walkthough for setting up subgame with wine in linux..i understand WINE and i think i could get it to working but it refers to DLing subgame. and the subgame.zip in the DL section here has just one exe in it with no ini.

and it also does not mention DLing/running subbill
so my question is:

(all DLs are from http://www.minegoboom.com/server/download.html )

--do i use the same server14.zip from windows in linux/WINE?
or do just download subgame/subbill/server.ini?
--should i be running CatIDs billing, or regular ol subbill?
--what folders do i need in ~/.wine/drive_c?
--do i even need a ~/.wine/drive_c/subbill or can it all be slapped in subgame?
--what files should be in ~/.wine/drive_c/subgame and/or billing

Um, all you have to do is setup Wine and make sure it can run Win32 applications. Once you have this confirmed and verified, just extract a copy of VIE's Subgame files somewhere on your server and start it by typing ./subgame2.exe& in your shell (the & part is supposed to put subgame2.exe into background) or nohup ./subgame2.exe.

That's all it takes. No special instructions.

Ironically enough, neither Linux nor Win32 AS3 will work on Warpath(.hlrse.net) at BlueT. Does not matter how you put it. This is most likely because of outdated libraries and kernal.

But Win32 MERVBot and Subgame2 works fine! icon_wink.gif

Have you tried linking everything statically, so the libraries (db, mysql, etc) are included inside the executable? It'll make the files pretty large, but they should work anywhere.

Basically copy all the files over on your windows computer into your wine "virtual" c drive. then just run as normal except prefix with "wine"

Heh, well that's beyond my knowledge. O_o I don't know enough about Linux to have the slightest clue about doing this. I'm a tub newbie. ;o
