ASSS Questions - Repel physics

Can someone explain what happens to ships and projectiles when they are repelled? It looks as if anything within RepelDistance, if it is heading toward the repel, gets pushed radially outward, and its velocity is set to RepelSpeed.

When you fly away from the repel, it seems like RepelSpeed is added to your velocity, whereas if you fly into the repel, your velocity is set to RepelSpeed (moving radially out from the repel). In other words, it is impossible to fly into a repelling ship until RepelTime is up. Is that correct?

Also, why does a rocketing ship travel so much faster when it is repelled, even if it initially was headed into the repel?

anything within RepelDistance gets pushed radially outward at repelSpeed (if repelSpeed is negative it gets sucked in, so you can collide with the repeling object), disirregardless of initial direction traveling. Also this effect repeats at some sort of frequency during the duration repel (like 5x a second or so) (which presents another way to hit the repeling ship)

for a short period of time, maximum speeds are disabled after you get hit by a repel. Because of this if you are traveling with the repel or using a rocket you seem to go much faster as you can surpass your ship's maximum speed.

Makes a lot of sense. So if you're flying away from a repel, you will only go faster if you keep thrusting forward. That's probably why the OP thought the velocity was 'added' to the repel speed. But if you're not thrusting at all, you will only go at RepelSpeed.
And that does not work if you're too close to the repel, because of the 5x/second thing, you'll get set back to RepelSpeed even if you try to accelerate. So I guess it only works as you get out of the RepelDistance just after you're "hit" by it.

Interesting. I always wondered what the occasional speed boosts were about...
