Trash Talk - Something about the Wiki

There's something that always bothered me with the ASSS wiki...

http://wiki.minegoboom.com/index.php/Main_Page

The only way to access the 'Categories' (which is the only way to browse to something you don't know the exact name), is to find it in the text. That is just wrong, there should atleast be a 'Categories' link on the left, just under the 'Main page' link.

And .. uh.. Just noticed the logo doesn't work, it says "Set $wgLogo to the URL path to your own logo image."
Only on the Main Page though, in other pages the logo appears fine.

Another thing, why is it called the ASSS Wiki? It contains a lot of information about subgame and continuum itself as well.

Because people can't read and put other stuff in there relating to non-asss stuff. Not that it's a problem, but that's why.

It was originally for just ASSS, but slowly expanded to lots of subspace things. As for the logo, it is probably due to the Wiki caching pages for guests. I just did a quick modification of the front page (whitespace change), and now the cache is fine.

For the links, go ahead and add things all over the place. It is a wiki..

I can't change the 'Navigation' panel though, can I? icon_eek.gif

I think 'All pages' and 'Categories' should be in there for quick access

I know SSF wanted to create a separate Wiki, to me defeats the purposes, just load everything into one or the other and be done with it.

I like this one because a lot of the developers dumped all their technical knowledge into it expanding it from only ASSS to everything else.

Actually, in the latest newsletter Polix sent few days ago, he said that SSF's wiki might get thrown away, and useful information would be merged into MGB's one. I'm all for that, because it created a useless barrier between what is deemed technical information, and what is not, cause everything technical still belonged here more than on ssf's

Due to a lack of use, and development we will be removing the SS Wikipedia. It became more of a personal promotion than a true Wiki, and sadly has killed its purpose. I will try to move a lot of the important information to ASSS's wiki and SSCentral so it is not lost, and will probably keep the wiki locked and archived for admin view in case anything is ever wanted or needed from it.

Sure you can, it is a wiki. Also, if you notice any pages with bad cache for normal users, just take on ?action=purge and you can manually rebuild any page's cache. But right now, I went ahead and cleared all the caches stored in the database.

Eh, I hope they keep the SSF Wiki. It's for fun, at least, that's the way I always saw it. Best to let the people who want to play around have their own wiki, and leave this one for the serious, important stuff. Kinda like how D1 put up a wiki ran by his squad a couple times, that was fun, even though most of it was pointless. I haven't been to SSF wiki, but I assume players can make wikis on zones and even themselves. If they can't, then they should be able to.

I didn't know the sidebar was actually a wiki page... And even if I did, I would have expected it to be protected tongue.gif

Anyway thanks

Once I got the spam-bot protections running good, I unprotected the front page and have not had any problems.
