If you have a router then ya, you'll need to forward your ports. The port will be the number that you set in your server.ini ( [Misc] Port = # ), but in your router's configuration you'll also want to forward a port higher (so if you have Port = 5000, forward both 5000 - 5001).
For me, all I had to do was go to http://whatismyip.com/ , and get my IP address, and then paste it into the url/link bar above. It then sent me to my router's admin panel where after loging in, I went into Advanced Settings > PORT FORWARDING, adding the application name, my computer's ip, and the Start & End ports. Your router (assuming you have one) and setup might be different than mine, so don't panic if it's not the same. Edit: There's a guide here if you're having trouble understanding. |

But your router configuration isn't available through the internet, is it?! That's not very secure. ![]() |

Not available through the internet silly, available through wireless network. Going through your IP is the same as using http://192.168.0.1 . |

It is, but that's not what you said. You said go to whatismyip.com and take the ip there... but what this webiste gives you isn't your local ip! |

No, a home IP isn't a webserver, thus the router administration panel is unaccessible outside your own network. The router picks up the address and the respective computer that has allowed configuration authentication, and sends the user back with the configuration page. It's the absolute same thing as using 192.168.0.1, only masked. It is NOT accessible elsewhere, despite not being a local IP. And like I specified, your router may not work the same way. So look it up. |
