SSCS Home has ceased since I now can actually give out zones for dev on SSCW.

How the hell is any actual ASSS development supposed to occur under those conditions? This thread gives off the strong impression that you have no idea how ASSS development works. Aside from the whole model of having compartmentalized development in arenas being laughable, your policies will only inconvenience people.

You will be placed in a certain staff group that restricts you from using things you wont be needing. Ex: ?Shutdown
This is actually a very necessary command for developers

If you try to damage the zone or security of the zone in any way, your arena will be removed and you will be netbanned.
Whoops, you forgot a mutex and the server crashed. Enjoy your netban.
Chambahs wrote:
You will not be provided with FTP, everything you need can be done ingame.
If you're giving them putfile/getfile you might as well give them FTP because they can already do everything with commands and it just saves time and effort.

Respect other devving arenas, and follow their rules. If they ask you to leave, leave.
You're not giving people ?send either?
Chambahs wrote:
Do not silence, kick, ban/ect any players that are not in your arena.
If you're already putting them in a "special staff group" why aren't you restricting it to their arena. I mean, I know they can change it but it would at least show that you've thought it out a little.

We are by no means obligated to help you or host you, we are doing this to help people that are serious about opening a zone.
People that are serious about opening a custom ASSS zone are not likely to use this service, for reasons that are not limited to the ones I stated above.

I don't think it will matter though because there really isn't a whole lot of independent ASSS development going on right now.

You will not be provided with FTP, everything you need can be done ingame.

Sorry for trying to help people with a place they can dev and get help in. Next time I guess I wont be so unselfish.

I don't think it is necessary to be this critical of Chambahs.

He is trying to help by providing an ASSS development zone on SSC, sort of a complement to the SSDev-run Subgame development zone (SSCI Subspace Development) already on SSC.

While some (not all) of the points brought up in this thread do seem reasonable (such as the point about the ?send command), I do not think there is any need to attack Chambahs for trying to help. He is not obligated to use his SSC slot for a dedicated ASSS development zone, and the fact that he is willing to use his SSC slot for such a purpose indicates that he should be lauded.

Don't get me wrong, I fully support ASSS Development and I think it's great now that SSC will even allow development zones on the biller (something that would never have been permitted several years ago). My problem here is that the policies that have been laid out are at odds with the fundamental nature of ASSS development and would be detrimental to the very thing the zone is trying to facilitate.

It's a positive first step. Is it ready to be rolled out as stated? Not in my opinion.

PS. These are only the technical issues, I haven't even gotten into political concerns because I hate them

I think that's a reasonable analysis D1, and I agree. The policies should be refined more before things are rolled out.

Hey, great idea Chambahs. Anything to help out the community is good! If I didnt have a place to do my dev work, it would certainly be a great help!
