Post subject: Hero or Villian?

My Artist, some people I know and I have been having this debate for about a week now. Is John Heemeyer an American hero, or just another homegrown terrorist?

For those of you who don't know who John Heemeyer is there is a wiki article on him here.

This guy, after countless attempts to fight his City Council turned a Komatsu Bulldozer into an armor plated tank. Then went about stalking businesses that where on a list of properties either owned by the City, or members of the City Council that had wronged him. Before his vehicle finally got hung up in the foundation of one structure, the Under-sheriff of this small town was calling in a request to have Military Helicopters fire Missiles at the dozer.

So, question is. Was this guy a hero or not? So many people are worshiping him as one, yet can he really be considered one?

Shielding a bulldozer and bringing buildings down is pretty awesome... However, he's a total moron imo.

Doc, that's the question I've been asking myself a lot. I mean I can respect this guy for taking a stand, and by acting out in civil disobedience, doubly-so since he didn't take any lives. However, violence should always be a last recourse in any form of protest.

Personally, I find the Farmer who soaked City Hall in his township with manure a lot more hero worthy. This man didn't take any lives, didn't destroy any property, but still acted out in civil disobedience and in protest but in such a way that the worst thing that happened was a window got cracked and the building stank for several days.

This guy, it's hard to discern if he really meant to not take any lives, or if the fact Emergency Management cleared the scene before he could do so made matters different. I mean he had two rifles and a .50 cal rifle. He had food, water, it was clear he meant to drag this out for as long as he could. Not only that, when you combine his religious rantings in which he shrouds himself in this Christ-like image, this "I'm doing the Lords work" view it's really hard to believe he was truly in his right mind. This only further proves his mind wasn't in the right place in that he did commit suicide, if he really was preaching a judeo-christian belief then he'd know suicide in that belief was considered the greatest of sins, and then he wouldn't have done such. Of course, suicide is a gray area in all reality.

Was this guy a hero, no, but I don't believe he was a monster either. I think this man was a tragedy in the making, a man pushed too far over the edge and lost himself in his delusions. It doesn't make it right, not by a far shot.

I have no idea what this guy did, but America needs to grow some terrorists, and quick - or we'll end up letting our government take total control.

Some times you have to sacrifice things for the greater good. I could see it being argued both ways.

I used to think civil disobedience was supposed to be civilized, non-violent... but I double checked... apparently it's up for debate whether violence can be used in civil disobedience so meh

It seems like the civily disobedient thing to do would be to use the bulldozer to build the road like he had originally planned, and then maybe not pay the fines.

The NAU isn't a huge problem. A lot of people know about it, and there is plenty of opposition. What we have to worry about are the CFR and the Tri-Lateral Commission, and the Neoconservatives. Every one of these organizations believes that America should rule the world(Well, TLC believes that America, a European Union, and Japan should jointly rule the world). They say so in their mission statements. But unlike the NAU, these other groups are supported by politicians that we've elected. Bush isn't explicitly a member, but considering his VP and his entire cabinet was built from Neocons, you can be pretty sure. The NAU pales in comparison to a political group(that happens to control our executive branch) who honestly believes America should rule the entire world. And there's not just one of them, there are several. And they're working together. This is why America needs people who are willing to stand against our government.

just so you know his name is MARVIN Heemeyer, john is his middle name (there are at least two John Heemeyers) and while some may see him as a hero or a villain he was really just a victim who ended up making the wrong choice after being victimized.
