Trash Talk - What would you do?

So, I'm a firefighter in real life. Volunteer, with EMT basic training, getting ready to reclass and go for my certification this winter, and officially I'm 20 hours away from being level 1 certified as a Fire Fighter.

I'm nothing important, just a Grunt, but because we have 22 guys, and we're strictly volunteer, it's common for only Grunts to be on scene. So, we have OIC's (Officer in Charge.). It's getting more and more common that I am OIC in the morning. I'm responsible for myself, my crew, the bystanders; I got to make sure EMS get what they need, and above all else I got to work with the patient when it's a Rescue. It's stressful. It's like imagine being on this forum, and actually being responsible for every little fucking thing everyone does on it, and if someone fucks up too many times they could get killed, or kill the patient...

If you haven't noticed, I'm not a serious guy when I don't have to be, but I'm all business on scene. Heh, bit different when you're on a forum screwing around, and then you're on scene of a massive 10-46 (Our ten code for wreck.), and we've got one patient ejected and dieing, and another with possible compartment syndrome and your getting the Paramedic fluids, if you're lucky enough to have a paramedic, flooding the guy with as many IVs as you can because the minute you get him out he's going to crash and the sudden release is going to send his body into shock.

It's a lot to have on your plate. Luckily, my experience as OIC has been kept to easy stuff. Nothing major, and it's good because I have a cadet who refuses to listen, then when we get back to the base he talks shit to me about barking orders at him. Every cadet we have respects and listens, even the other grunts. My problem is, I don't know if I should break this kid, or if I should let it go. He freaked out a patient, blew me off, took it upon himself to determine the measures needed for getting the patient out (That is a joint decision between Officer, EMS and/or OIC.)

I got to talk to our chief about it in the morning. I really don't want to see this kid kicked off, he's already been suspended once for this bullshit, because he has potential. But he's so fucking rash he's going to get himself, and/or more killed, and in the end - if I'm OIC when it happens - it's my fault.

He needs to learn taking order's from people will be a common thing in life whether in emergency rescue units, or working at the McD's down the road. Fortunately, the later has less possibility of killing someone if he screws up. If he can't get his act together, I'd probably say I'd let him go. Shame though but if he can't get his act together ...

That's just my thoughts, you got a big decision on your hands. *luck*

He handled the tricky situation perfectly fine and received a nice big cake after he was baked.

I asked them how I should of handled it, and they said what I did was all I could do, officially. Given the mood they showed he'll probably get told to ship up or leave, like the rest. If he's serious he will, if not he'll be kicked off. Simple as that.

Princess Bride, though part of me didn't want to answer that simply for the fact you've spammed the shit out of yet another topic.

The custom title and replacement of your signature apparently has no effect on the words that come out of your mouth. Step one of idiot-protection is now in action.

Please keep your comments in line with something that actually expands on the topic at hand, otherwise the next step will be to have every post of yours folded up until clicked upon (like a fancy ignore post).
