Post subject: Laptop Battery Not recognized
I turned on my laptop and it told me my battery wasn't recognized and it won't recharge. I hit f2 to enter setup like it said but there any hardly any options and none have anything to do with the battery My laptop runs fine without it but I like having a battery as a backup. Is my battery bad or is it my motherboard? I read a few forums that said the motherboard could be bad. This is a brand new laptop. I got it for Christmas. I haven't dropped it, spilled anything on it, and I haven't damaged it in any way. It worked fine the night before. I don't think my battery reached 149 degrees. Any suggestions? Buy a new battery, call dell and find out about warranty? I heard they don't warrant batteries, just the rest of the system.

I checked and the battery is not charging (when the pc is on or off).

Edit: I talked to dell. They said it is the battery and they will send one free.

I have Dell laptop too (kinda old now), in the bios there is something to see primary/secondary battery voltage levels, strange you don't have that. I can't see any extra physical space for a second battery though, unless it goes in where the DVD drive is.

Which leads me on to the Dell (desktop) computers I recently saw in a public place, they use the same DVD module as my laptop, so all you need to do is take a normal screwdriver, take out the 1 screw preventing the release mechanism from working, and nick it tongue.gif

I was reading some more forums that said it could be the DC Jack. It will run on ac but won' t charge. The battery will run though.

I did Kind of pull the cord a bit (not very hard). It's covered under warranty for another 6 months so that's plenty of time to test a new batter and repair the dc jack (if that is the case). It won't charge if I hold the cord at an angle so I think it's not that.

Tip: Always get warranty on a laptop. It would suck if I didn't have it now.

I avoid all types of insurance if I can. Just don't break it and you'll be fine. (I assume by "warranty" you mean one of these "extended service plans".)

My warranty covered the new battery and it was here in less than 24 hours after requesting it. It was a basic 1 year warranty (I think that's the least you can get).

Battery works fine now. It is charging as we speak. I won't use battery power unless I really need to now. We did have a power surge the other day so that may have fried it. Either way it works now. I love dell. They got the problem solved in under a day.

Kudos to Dell! (If you ignore the fact the battery should not have died to begin with since it was only 6 months old).

Well, they can't stop everything. They only have MTBF ratings, "Mean Time Between Failures". Basically, all electronics are very volatile and can crap out after a day. They only try to get MOST of their parts to work for a long time, and they accept that there are going to be failures.

I doubt they really 'try', it's a money maker for them when their product craps out standard_warranty + 1 day.

I was really nice to them and even talked to a supervisor about how great the chat session was. I had it the next day (less than 24 hours). Maybe they sent me a good one. icon_biggrin.gif

Edit: I had a 6 cell battery before. This one seems to stay at a 100% longer. Says 4 hours left instead of 2 and 45 minutes. I think they sent me a 9 cell battery. Score?

Niice, I love the battery I chose for my laptop, it's about 5 hour life.

If I darken my screen from the brightest to the lowest to changes to 4 hours and 54 minutes. So I am about the same as you now. That's odd though. Maybe the calculator thing is screwy. I don't think darkening would add an hour. icon_confused.gif

Wtf? Makes me glad I have a DS. That thing lasts me usually around 10 hours. Laptops just piss me off.

Can you play continuum on a DS? What about Linux. icon_biggrin.gif
Actually, I bet you can run Linux off a DS. Runs on everything else.

Someone tried the PSP. Besides, I can play Pokemon, which has a more interesting metagame. My Gliscor is owning people up, though.

Hell yeah. Well, you could just hack them. Or, if you'd prefer, I could hack them and then send them to you. It seems kind of lame to hack Pokemon, but since certain moves are so popular(BoltBeam, Calm Mind, and Psychic are 4 good examples), you have to play the games multiple times just to make a competitive team. Also, if you wanted a perfect stat pokemon, it would take years to get a perfect IVed Pokemon. Even if you were breeding from parents with perfect IVs, you've only got a 1/256 chance. The actual chances are usually one in somewhere around the tens of thousands, though.

Got my temp. license.
I was gonna blur some things out but my camera did it for me.

EDIT: More good news. My bro said he talked to the main manager, and he saw my report card (he said whoa).

I can't wait to work at McDonalds. It's a dumb job, but it will get me to Germany.

Lol. It's like in those movies where they just zoom in on pictures and magically recreate details. "Hmmm well you see, this one black pixel here can be blown up and split apart into multiple colors."
