Post subject: System Tray Eject Icon

Is there any way to get that eject button in Windows (2000) to only show up for specific devices? For example, I want it for my digital camera, but not for my SATA hard disk. Figured some of you may know or may be better at Googling than I am. Thanks.

Vista allows you to not display the icon for specific devices. So if you install Windows with a USB card reader, it won't display the eject icon.

Alright, thanks for the help.

On another note, have your opinions of Vista changed? Still only good for laptops or is it worthy of my desktop now? I've heard you can disable Aero, does that actually work and does it significantly reduce its RAM usage? Can you turn off all the security warnings?

I had an unbaised opinion from a friend who says he hates Vista. He is downgrading to Windows XP. He has never used Linux. Most people say Vista is just eye candy. I haven't touched it yet. Is it any better than XP? More/Less bugs? Do the applications freeze/crash as much?

Vista gaming performance sucks from what i have heard as none of the graphics drivers are much cop

Only at school. A lot of people have issues with their documents freezing for no apparent reason. I stopped typing and I was listening to my teacher talk. When I started typing again, everything was frozen.

Just wondering if that still happens.

He was so excited about Vista.

What in Vista looks like something you'd use. As I've mentioned in posts before, the things they have upgraded the most are related to laptop features. For a normal desktop, they really didn't add much that a few free programs couldn't do better.

For its price compared to already owning XP, it isn't worth it for a desktop.

For a laptop that does not run tons of services and background processes, Vista is awesome. The new features work well for smaller, single display resolutions. The RAM hungry applications will move out of the way if you do some heavy processing, but they'll claim it back as soon as they can. Firewalls, battery usage, and sleep mode, like I said above, work great. Aero gives just enough eye candy that, by default, does not get in the way but makes the experience nicer. And ClearType/DPI settings in the OS actually work almost everywhere, thus reading on the laptop for older people (father) is much nicer when you are stuck at using the native resolution. He still runs his XP machine at a less-than-native resolution so he can read easier, even though he knows he loses a great deal of detail on his LCD screen.

I tried Eclipse in XP the other day, it freezes a lot especially when I double click a word (because I want to highlight it for cut/paste/deleting).

We use mostly Microsoft Office stuff and Internet Explorer. I went to a website and it had some flash.osx error and crashed. Adobe Flash Player was up-to-date and everything. Microtype and Micropace never freeze. It's rare for PowerPoint to freeze, but it does sometimes. I think it's mostly word.

Eh, pretty much the main reasons I'd upgrade to Vista are DX10 and other app requirements.
