Things become way too repetitive, and that is what kills many zones.

The zone owners cant run the zone, and staff sucks :/

Reminds me of when you used to run it.

Personally I think it's time we just let go and let it shutdown. Half of the players bitch non-stop. No need to listen to it any longer. icon_biggrin.gif

Or..maybe you should do something about it instead of nothing?
Chambahs - Thu Feb 01, 2007 8:56 pm

Well when you do nothing, the zone usually dies, which is what we are all trying to accomplish...So lets all do nothing.

I refuse to help people who only whine when I try to help.
Let it die.

Then everything you attempt to do will fail, because no matter what you do, people will always whine.

It's actually quite pathetic, before I left Halo is had 50-60+, when I was asked to help back 4-5 months later, it rarely had 30.

The problem I saw was that no one knew wth they were doing, and the problem might be too late to fix..

shut up agurus, you gave away ownership in the first place and fucked things up.

Wow. Are you not a sysop there anymore?
Purge - Fri Feb 02, 2007 3:37 pm

BD is the owner.
freakmonger - Fri Feb 02, 2007 3:41 pm
Post subject:
then wtf would the OWNER talk about the zone like that on a public forum. Hell if a MOD spoke like that about the zone he was staff in on a public forum he should be fired on the spot. I can't think why an owner would talk about his own zone like that.

But if you really felt that way and you are really the owner just *shutdown. If you are a co-owner and you are the only co-owner that thinks this way, then maybe its time to hand your part of the ownership over to somebody else. Because thinking like that will do nothing but kill the zone slowly. Why waste everybody's time and just get it over with quickly. As long as you think like that, then death of the zone is obvious. But if you were to hand the zone over to someone who actually cared about it then maybe they could bring some life back to the zone and get it back on its feet. But with your state of mind, you will make illlogical decisisons when it comes to the zone and THAT will be the killer. i.e. moving hosts, moving forums, changing software, etc.
BDwinsAlt - Fri Feb 02, 2007 5:18 pm
Post subject:
I'm not the owner. ROFL. icon_razz.gif
You obviously can't type ?owner, that's why it's not shutdown. Someone on staff would just start it back up again.
freakmonger - Fri Feb 02, 2007 6:33 pm
Post subject:
Well as many times as that zone has changed owners in the past 3 months, I can't blame anyone for not knowing who the owner is these days. Either way a sysop or staff member should never be posting things like that about the zone they are staff in. That is, unless you got fired.

BD isn't doing anything Shadowripper didn't do. =P 'sides not being a nazi asshole.

Edit: Started to leave it at that, but eh what the hell, I've not posted in a while.

There isn't anything wrong with what BD's saying, if he is the owner or not, sometimes even the creator has to know when it's best to salvage, fix or just let it die. I mean, Gene Rodenberry didn't *just* write Star Trek Novels, he had the basis for Andromeda written up; Nor did Arthur C. Clarke limit himself to the Space: 2001, series, or Piers Anthony limit himself to the Xanth series.

Nah, you can't limit yourself. Even coders don't, look at Catid and Mine. I can't knock a guy for wanting to do something else, atleast they care enough to keep it up for the die hards who enjoy it. Personally, if it was me, I'd just hand the zone off to someone else and let them worry about it. I mean, why get attached to a bunch of graphic files and ship settings for a game you don't even own the rights to?

=o

I love Piers Anthony. And I just read Childhood's End a couple days ago. If the rest of his stuff is anything like Childhood's End, I'm sure Arthur C. Clarke is an amazing author, too.

Also, 2001: A Space Odyssey was a HORRIBLE movie.

Halo has had probably the most trouble throughout its existence of any zone in recent history. I'm surprised it has lasted as long as it has to be honest.

Part of me wouldn't mind starting up a zone, but honestly. I have no desire to make it big. I just want a place to dick around with settings, and map designs without having to go through someone else's red tape. I know, I know, I can always set up my own server, but I has DSL and it is the suck. =P Besides, I'd rather be hooked up with SSC billing for once.

The difference is Desert Storm has had reliable hosting where as Halo hasn't had that. Both are run by immature staff who act as if they are children (and probably are) and who probably know nothing of managing a zone (or the technical skills required to actually be helpful). But at least DS hasn't had to worry about its host taking over ownership of the zone. That never works out well for any zone.

This is why I quit Subspace and went to Furc. Sure, Furc's full of obnoxious geeks who put as much thought into D&D supplements as most here put into their scripting, and furrys... But, hey. Furry girls are crazy, and you know what they say about crazy chicks.

... Course you got to weed out the psychos and ugly ones first. But, atleast the drama is actually interesting.

Do you know ANYTHING about the history of Desert Storm, and its current owner? And its previous server? And who OWNED that server? And who now owns DS?

....

Edit: Oh yeah. About widely publicized scandals, apparently Suicide_Run took your hint: http://forums.sscentral.com/index.php?showtopic=12966
