I want to run a zone of my own, but a friend says you need to have linux and a separate computer that runs 24/7, is this true, or can you use windows, I would have trouble using linux since I do not know the codes needed to run it, so can anyone here help me.

No. The original server software, Subgame, runs on Windows.
http://www.shanky.com/server is the place to get started.

So does ASSS, but a lot of people get it to run better on Linux. If you know what you're doing and/or get some help, you can probably get it running on Windows.

You also don't really need to run it on a seperate computer, it runs fine on your own.
However, you need to expose the correct ports from your computer to the internet in order to let outsiders join your server.

No it isn't. He was asking about zone running in general. He never stated ASSS or Subgame. He is fine posting it here, it's basic zone-running information.
