Could you be a little more specific? Is it blurry? Pixellated? Is it just the text?

My first suggestion is to change your resolution to 1280x800, your laptop's native resolution. Anything beyond that, get new glasses or your laptop is defective.

Personally, I was really hoping you were talking about your avatar, because as I was entering the thread, I was trying to think of what shitter avatars could I set for you.

Do as MGB said, increase your resolution to the highest your screen can handle.

NO. Read what I said. LCDs have native resolutions. Try to always, always use an even multiple of that native resolution. If your native resolution is 1600x1200, only 1600x1200 and 800x600 will look good. Anything else will be crap, because pixels in your video card will not match with pixels on the screen.

Use 1280x800. If it is too hard to read things, change your DPI to 120.

In a normal windows environment you can't set your resolution higher then the LCDs native resolution (esp. with notebooks) which I was pointing at.

I've done it quite a few times in Windows. Some display drivers have the actual display be the native resolution and when you move the mouse at the edge of what is on the display, it pans over to what is offscreen. Others will center in on the middle of the screen at the native resolution and anything outside of it, you can't see. And for others (though rare), they'll down convert it so you actually lose pixels.

If you go into Display Properties and force the monitor 'drivers' to be either nothing or the default windows ones, you can pick any resolution you want. How it handles it, thats not up to you unless your video card drivers have fancy controls.

it's weird because all of the pictures that came with the laptop look fine. it's only the images on the internet... including the emoticons, buttons on this site, facebook pictures, etc.

Lear: You're not using one of those "OMFG CABLE SPEEDS ON DIALUP" things are you? Because they work by drastically reducing image quality.
