General Questions - Door Timing? Joules Burn - Mon Aug 28, 2006 12:51 pm Post subject: Door Timing?
I'm tring to set up an arena and would like to control the opening and closing of doors. I'm familiar with how to do it and it works almost as expected with one exception.
The doors take several minutes after being set, to actually change in the arena. It always waits for a reread before actually changing, although it changes in server.cfg immediately.
I've gone through many of the previous posts. Changed owner and sysop names to be different, then login as sysop, tried running server on another system and OS. Always the same. I'm running subgame2 1.34.14a.
I read a post from back in 2003 that stated this is an unknown problem with some systems.
My question is: Has anyone figured this out yet?(Why some and not others) Is there any new info about the problem available? Is there a way to force rereads immediately?
or is this just the way it is?
Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thx Joules

How are you changing them? Not by changing the CFG directly, I hope. Use ?set.

Thx
Yes, I'm using *set door:doormode:0-255. I run the client windowed or alt tab out to check the server.cfg and look at the server window.
Client responds "Changes Complete". At that point, if I open the server.cfg the change has been made, but not in the arena. The server window reads
"Ext: Re-reading C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\NASTY CARS\SERVER\server.cfg"
but the arena doors don't change.
Then a few minutes later(2-3) in the server window, it'll say
At that point the arena doors switch as they should.
I read in another post that this works properly in some arenas and not others and was wondering if anyone had come up with a solution/reason or am I SOL and should be looking for a workaround to the problem some other way.(My head is getting sore and the wall looks pretty bad too.)
I'm running only subbill2(11j) and subgame2(1.34.14a), no bots(tried a couple, but this door problem messes their door timings up.), on a LAN, W98se,P4-2G, 512 Mb ram, also tried on W2K,P4-2.4,512Mb ram with same results, in case any of that makes a difference.. thx again
