Bot Questions - Looking for a bot to run under Linux

Post subject: Looking for a bot to run under Linux
Hi, I've played SS off and on for years (found out about it back in 98 maybe?) and I recently got ASSS set up on a friend's server with only a few minutes of fiddling and reading the docs.

I've been having fun using SSME to create maps, but I'd like to add a bit more spice to things by bringing in bots. If at all possible, I'd like to get a bot that runs under Linux, whether it be in C, C++, Perl, Python, or whatever, so I can run it on the server.

I can read and fiddle with all of those languages, even if I'm not proficient enough to write something from scratch. If someone has a very basic bot that fits those criteria, that would be great. If someone has a bot that flies around and shoots, that's even better.

I'm aware of the list of bots in the forum; some of them are broken links, and most are for Windows. Shawnbot is one exception, but when I run it, the server gives me a location error, and he never actually gets into the zone.

Thanks in advance.

Most are for windows? 3/4 of the bots listed are cross-platform compatible -- and I say 3/4 because shawnbot isnt listed, and ASSS can run on windows or linux.
Id take another look if I were you.

After some more reading, I see that TWcore runs on Java, something I have the least experience with.

How about if I restate my question as:

Does anyone actually run a bot under Linux with ASSS, and what capabilities does it have? Ideally, I'd like a bot that could compete with players, be a rabbit, whatever.

Much of the information in this forum is old, so it's hard to figure out what will work with ASSS since many of the bot listings don't say what servers they are compatible with.

Just incase you didn't already know, asss has a server side plugin system. You can look in the ASSS Custom Projects forum for modules.

There is a bot/drone thingy for asss by bak, although I think it needs some attention to get it to work:

Bjorn did mod mervbot (windows bot) into a fighting one here:

ASSS is better than most bots, especially if you're going to be coding the plugin yourself.

If you feel you *need* a bot, use twcore. That should run on Linux.

The bots running in Trench Wars are on linux servers. You mentioned python, for which asss has a plugin structure and several modules. They are admittedly not able to do as much as C modules but they can still do a lot.
