LVZ/LVL Questions - blinky ships :) wEaViL - Wed Feb 26, 2003 7:21 am Post subject: blinky ships :)
K I just had a cool idea for my zone but A. dont know if it will work and
B. dont know how to go about doing it
I was thinking of adding lights to the ships and make them blink. I dont know anything about making shipsets and was wondering if theres anyway to I guess have 2 pics of the ships, 1 with lights off and 1 with them on and then get the lvz file or something to switch between pics to get the blink effect.. Anyone know if that will work or is there anyway even at all to do such a stroke of genius idea, lol

No, it can't work currently.

If you want to do this, you can use a lvz image behind ships that blinks, and have parts of the ship be clear in the middle. Just make sure you have the ship be pretty round, so when you turn, edges don't blink. When you die/spec, you'll get the ugly blinking thing constantly in the middle also.
So in simple terms, no, you won't be able to do this and look good.

You can alternate lights on and off in the ship image. So if you're going one direction, they're either just plain off, or just plain on, but if you spin around, they blink.
example -> straight up (lights off), 10 degrees right (lights on), 10 more degrees right (lights off), etc...
If you are 3d modeling and making rolling images...well, just remember that this would take doing things twice.

yeah the first thing i thought of was the degree changes... you might make that work...but it would be obvious

I think I will just leave that one alone for now, lol
Think reading the post just fried my brain
