General Questions - Repel while Moving Anonymous - Mon Jan 02, 2006 2:55 pm Post subject: Repel while Moving
OK heres the problem. Ive had this for a long long time, and never been able to figure it out.
For some reason at Paintball, you have to let go of the arrow keys to repel. IF you try to repel while holding an arrow, it simply wont repel.
Anyone know wat causes this?

because shift is used in repels, and if you shift while you use an arrow key, it acts as afterburners...but then again, i dont think that should do anything about it.

It most likely sounds like your keyboard is the problem. Ever notice while you are flying, if you hold the up/down/left/right arrow keys in a certain way, then lift one of the keys, your ship will still move/rotate in the direction that is no longer being held? Your keyboard can only detect so many keys at once. This has problems for those that try to enter braille on their keyboards.
Notice it is mostly a 4 key entry? Most keyboards only support a 4-key rollover. Usually, the modifier keys (shift/ctrl/alt) have their own buffer, which will allow you to use them in combination with other keys. Doing the same SDFJKL test holding shift down works the same, as with shift-ctrl, ctrl-alt, shift-ctrl-alt, etc.
Since each keyboard manufacture can do it their own way, you can end up with weird problems. My recommendation to you is either try it with a different keyboard or to rebind your keys to a pattern best for your situation. Use enter to enter into chatting mode, and make your repel key be Z or something near your fingers. Rebinding like this has the side effect that while entering a message, you can't repel, but you shouldn't be typing in situations in which you have a good chance of dieing. Make macros for those events.

Mmmm, no its not my keyboard.
If you visit SSB Paintball Reloaded (soon SSCB) you would see. It's a problem every player has, some sort of glitch in the setts. I have never seen it anywhere else.

Ive also noticed this in paintball, in adition to not being able to rep while moving I cant shoot (bombs or guns) while moving with afterburners, while I can do this in every other zone, it real seems like a strange problem with paintballs settings.

Send me the settings, if the problem is in them then I'll fix it.

I -think- you are wrong about the up/down/left/right in continuum. I could have swore over the years i have learned that there are dominant keys in subspace. I -believe- if you hold down up and push down, your ship will go down, but if you hold down and push up, it will still go down. Hence, dominant keys. It may be vice versa with the up/down, havent tried it in a while. But im definant it works.

Whoever was that guest...
You normally cant shoot or bomb while using afterburners, cuz tab or ctrl with shift makes a repel or mine. Exception would be if u re-arranged your keys. Also note there rnt any mines in Paintball.
And, i donno if i wanna give someone my setts...

I've had that problem as well with a few zones, and I just never came around to try and fix it. But I do know that it is possible to hold shift while holding up or down and fire a repel.
@chambahs: You are right about holding down then up, and up then down. The ship will always go down, unless there is some other technicality come into play.

Same thing happens with left vs right

The keyboard may only handle several key presses at the same time.
Certain keys hold precedence over others.
They're two seperate issues.

Im not talking about moving with shift (afterburner)...
Im talking plain moving, holding an arrow key, flying.
You can NOT repel while holding an arrow, any arrow.
