Bot Questions - Football source up for grabs....

Post subject: Football source up for grabs....
Hey all, I am the developer of the football bot in HZ that just ran a succesful entire league season. If you look at one of my previous posts, you will see some of the many additions to the original bot that were developed.

Anyways, HZ has gone the ASSS route, so I have decided to give up the football source code to anyone who wants it. You are free to use this bot in any zone you would like, and full source code (and support) will be given to anyone who wants it.

I'm not sure if HZ will ever get another football (module, not bot, since the switch to ASSS), as advanced as this one for quite a while. It has a few bugs, which I would be more then glad to help iron out. As I stated, full source code will be provided, and I will help any zone that wishes to get the new football bot up and running. Because of the new football bot, HZ saw a massive increase in population, and we averaged about 20-30 people a night in the sub-arena, and about 50-60 during league games.

Currently, the only zone running a football bot is MG, and it is the old bot that Vampz wrote. The MG football sub-arena has seen a massive jump in population since HZ switched to ASSS with no football, and currently average about 20-25 people every time I checked.

Just want to spread football to the masses. There are some people that want to keep football in HZ itself, but this is now the second time that HZ has made a move that has killed football (they once shut it down for a year, and now have completely killed it by switching to ASSS, which will require a complete rewrite to make it a module).

If you're interested, please contact me at colson1175@hotmail.com. As I mentioned, I just want football to be available for people to play. I don't require any kind of access to your zone, and/or any kind of powers in your zone. That is not my intention, I just want football available. If you're interested, please contact me, and I will be more than happy to help you set it up in your zone.

Thanks,

Nickisis

By the way, since I didn't clarify, the bugs are mostly statistic recording related, and have nothing to do with gameplay. Just wanted to clarify that.

ASSS can run bots just as well as subgame can.

Must have something to do with the mySQL support currently built into the bot, not sure. All I know is that HZ had to rewrite all of their bots into modules to get everything running smoothly, so I'm going off that.

Anyways, MG has shown interest in the bot, so chances are I would only be releasing the bot to them anyways until HZ gets a module up and running.

HZ has made (IMO) some colossal mistakes. I assume this is just another.

Like?

For the record, it's not like we killed football. We just moved to ASSS and are working on adding important features/bug fixes to the main game before moving on to the sub-arenas.

The way in which several things were handled before and during the move to ASSS. Most of my HZ news comes through the filters of Nikon F5 and Arnk Dylie, if that makes anything more clear.

There's no good reason not to run the legacy bots on ASSS while you code new version as modules.

There's a perfectly good reason not to run the football bot on ASSS but I won't get into that. We've tried making the necessary changes to get the old league bot to run but that didn't work out so well. Regardless, we don't need it anymore now (nor did we really need it once we switched to ASSS, there were only some bug fixes we ironed out the first week of pre-season).

The only bot we really need right now is the register bot, but for some odd reason once it was edited to work with ASSS and was put up, it would crash the zone. But anyway, I've got UKM working on a register module (unfortunately I had no idea python didn't support all interfaces) and I've been signing up new people manually, not too much work.

I'm not sure what Nik's been telling you, but Arnk and I are on the same page when it comes to HZ and ASSS.

Maybe submit it to subspacedownloads.com too?

He isn't responding to me, I think Confess is right and he only wants MG to use it. Oh well, too bad.
