Does phpBB have a permissions section like IPB, where you can setup a list of forum permissions for specific users, cause I'd really like to not see Trash Talk anymore.

Not really, but it isn't that hard to never click in here. Like I don't go into Zone Hosting very often, because I cannot do much for it, and 1ststrike does a kickass job in there already.

How about an 'ignore forum' option, MGB? biggrin.gif

How about I continue to work on my other projects which are slightly more important. The one time I code something new into here is usually a) to make fun of a specific person or b) something I personally want.

Then again, some things arise not because I wanted them, such as the whole bookmarking, quick-reply, etc came about. The profile option to select if clicking on a thread block will link you to the thread or do nothing special was because people didn't like how I setup the forums specifically for me in mind.

And adding in new ignore features is pretty damn crappy. There are a bunch of random SQL calls all over the forums asking for threads this, forums that, and none of them follow any standard other than they are checking the same tables. Hell, the original ignore-user checked every post against every one of your ignore lists, ever time. 25 posts? Well, thats 25 new loops, each with however many ignores you have. Take a look at the bottom of the pages with how many SQL calls there are. I'd say if I wanted to, I could cut every page down to maybe 10 at most. The front page right now sucks up 24 calls. Looking at one person's profile uses 14.

In anycase, php doesn't have a nice feature on per-forum levels, unless I'd setup true permission mode, which means having everyone be in specific groups, and hack together an auto-group joiner for all the new signups, and hard-code in the anonymous to be a specific group also. To really make these forums better would be to just go to a new one, but it works how it is, and it does what it needs.

Think of it like LVZ for Subspace. No one really was calling for it, yet Priit added it in so Trench Wars could have fancy new graphics to look at. Lots of time for something pretty much useless, though now, it is hard to think of certain zones existing without them.

It's not that hard just to ignore specific forums if you want to.

I wonder...what if you create a group, and disallow it viewing of the trash talk, then assign him to that usergroup?

Never tried such a bypass before.

P.S. Mine Go Boom
Could you please reset the email for Ori Klein (someone else regged it) to the same one I used on Gravitron?

Now, first order of business, restoring the ignored immature idiots list.

This post maybe of use to you.

Unfortunately, it does not, as the user profile contains no "ignore this user" feature (and I'm too lazy to click the search all posts, then click a post of theirs, then ignore them...well not realy, but lately the forums load rather slow and I don't like wasting 40 seconds per user).
It matters not.
At the rate these forums are being flooded by stupidity it's no hardship to notice who is a persona non-grante.

By merely reading couple threads I've managed already to single out seven garbage-posters.

Would it be possible to add a second non-related topics forum, perhaps "Disassociated Discussions" where the more intellectual may confer general-aspected matters without the rest of the baboons showing up and discharge their spoils on the ground?

Good idea. Unfortunately, you wouldn't be allowed to post there.
