It only works with encryption turned off (my laptop works fine, it's xp with an intel wifi chipset).
It freezes your machine every second for a split second. Very noticeable when playing SS, even when I disable the radio, it still does it, I killed the bcmwltry process in the end and that fixed it.
My requirements are it must work on win98se and encryption must work. Preferably not a broadcom chipset since that is what bcmwltry supposedly is for.

That was $69.99, return that shit.

That link was just showing the model of the card. I didn't pay that much for it...
Edit: I'm also considering a wireless/ethernet bridge, it shouldn't drain resources from my computer being an external piece of hardware. The guy in the shop was trying to get me to buy the PCI card even though a bridge costs more.

My laptop has a broadcom card and it works beautifully. You might have just gotten a bad card model. Or a bad card, possibly.

there is a site that has a bunch of wireless cards (that work for psp but they are probably still good wifi cards in general http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5154&sid=2065edd7936e021f0090e9e3d3c18f3b
there are some rather cheap ones and some decent ones.

I have that one Smong, works perfectly on my machine.
I have never had that problem with my card. But did you ever have a problem that after certain periods of time the card would turn off, and then turn back on again?

Maybe that's because of your DHCP lease expiring, newb?
I use 3coms (Intersil Prism) here, they're fine for Windows, not Linux though.
I've had a Win98 PC on it, but I'm not sure if I ever tried that with encryption.

My broadcom works excellently as well, it automatically connects to a network and has an IP addy before the guy next to me in engineering class can even find it.
