LVZ/LVL Questions - Partial or Small Tiles

Post subject: Partial or Small Tiles
I wanted to make a map with spaces smaller than one standard tile. Is there any way to make smaller spaces to fly/shoot through? (So that, for instance, a radius 6 ship could NOT fit through the smallest spaces) Perhaps some way to make small tiles or tiles that act as part space and part wall? All those levels with apparent 45 degree angle walls that you get caught on give me a sinking feeling that this may not be possible...

I'm trying to make a level with some very small ships, but with some spaces too small for even them to fly through (but still big enough to shoot through).

Tiles are always 16x16.

Sorry, not going to happen.

Well, at least not in my lifetime...

Make the ships bigger, the tiles will then relatively be smaller tongue.gif

Unfortunately, that won't help make a low resolution level for those stuck with old/ low res systems...
Ah well, that's what I was afraid would be the answer...

Thanks (anyway) everybody.

Hmmmm... is it possible to make tiles which can be fired through, but not flown through?

Nope, but what you could do is just go like this:

Code: Show/Hide

( = solid tile that nothing can go through.
) = Tile that goes over top everything (except LVZ images)
- = bulet fire.
X = Part of the ship.

Cheap work-around, but works.

a fly under/fly over tile. just make it look the same as the other tiles and connect it. you can still shoot through it, even fly through it, if it is two tile spaces wide. we have already done this in my zone.

That is just what I said, look at my diagram.

Here's a useful TXT file that explains the "extra" tiles that you can either hexedit into the map, or use something like Dusted.

LVL Format - Tileset explains everything. Also includes all those extra non-standard tiles that were linked to before in this thread.

You can also use clit for your special tile needs.

what is the difference between all the map editors? just the different tiles.

Wrong. It is functionality, you can import various tiles.

Ex.
SSME isn't buggy at all.
CLE will crash every 5 minutes.

CLE?

SSME can't handle special tiles and that makes it old. Use CLIT instead which has alot more functionality.

Well, I did only skim through the txt file, but I did read each tile's effect. Did I miss the tile he's asking for; the one that allows you to shoot through it, but does not allow access over?

Post subject:
nope, that tile doesn't exist. there is one that you can pass through but not shoot through though.

i just downloaded Dusted and that comment by purge helps me alot. where would i get clit? and CLE is just like SSME but updated right?

Hmm.. Why don't you figure out how to stretch the tileset to make double tiles instead? It's possible icon_smile.gif. I didn't bother figuring it out though. I think I could of done it with reshack.exe but didn't bother finishing doing it. Otherwise theres another way.

how about putting four tiles side by side and calling it a single tile?

get clit at http://www.rshl.org/CLIT

yea.. cant u make the ship radius like really really small.. and make the tileset really really tiny? biggrin.gif
Purge - Sat Sep 10, 2005 1:07 am
Post subject:
If you make the tileset tiny, it'll still be 16x16 pixels no matter what.
