Bot Questions - AI Bot Platform

Post subject: AI Bot Platform
I just wanted to start a topic to see if theres any interest in a project im considering. I basically want to see if its worth the effort to implement.

Ive been working on a AI bot the last couple of months and ive come quite a long way but as most coders who've spent countless hours on something giving away a full source code isn't such a hot option icon_wink.gif

My idea though was to release the heavily modified mervcore as closed source which would handle all projectile tracking and map etc etc. Move over all the AI logic into the plugin part and have that as open source making it possible for coders to write their own behaviour.

If youre interested in this bot you can read a list of stuff added/needed here:

It would be cool if you developed something like robocode for SS. Though, I wonder how many people will actually use it to write their own AI vs how many will use it simply to have an AI bot in their zone.

I planned on doing something like this in Java, but not only am I lazy, but im fuckin lazy, so thatll never happen.

I don't mind that people are trying to do some soft of development. What I do mind is the amount of zones that spawn up bot cores to fake population. To me what would be ideal is to write the AI for asss where the spawned ships wouldn't count as players.

Assassin, thats not by far what Bjorn is talking about.
If you want to see it in action, check SSCU 17th Parallel sometime and ask me to put BOT>AI up.

That's what cypher was talking about mave, it's the same thing except it's an ASSS plugin so it uses fake players (don't count as population) instead of bots.

1. Mave i was talking about what cypher said.

2. There is also AI's that are some like what your talking about. They can also use stealth and cloak. They are at SSCI battlefield.

Well open source actually makes your software 200% more used and developed then closed source does. Its a proven concept sa_tongue.gif

Yeah, which is why MS Windows is used on 200% more of all computers in the world.

linux is probably developed on 200% more though (than windows the operating system, not software on the OS). Windows is more popular because it made some good business decisions early on (partnering with IBM didn't hurt), plus it's been around longer than linux, and already dominated the market when linux was introduced.

And Windows tries to appeal to the computer-illiterate that are fine with wasting time, just want a computer, while Linux tries to appeal to those who would like to use their computers to their fullest extent.
