Post subject: Russian forum-bot invasion?

While browsing the

Memberlist and looking for some nice website links I noticed when hovering over the

buttons that a bunch of links were .ru (Russia); like here.

I know MGB won't reply until he's back, but whatever, I'll just ask this now.

Do you have any idea why they registered and where they come from?
Is it some weird forum bot trying to get visitors to visit their URLs? Are they worms trying to hack into these forums?
All their post counts are 0, and well it looked a bit strange to me.

As for the websites, I checked some of those pages in plain text, although that didn't make much sense to me, it probably wouldn't make much sense to me either if I checked it in an internet browser.

How did you do it, exactly?

I'm not sure if the "Helpful Hints" page was already there, but since I'm sure that wouldn't stop any robot I felt like asking.

I changed the variables and method for how a registation takes place, thus any global "register on any phpbb" bot won't work, and will see just a blank page.

Make it automatically ban the client if it posts the original phpBB variables, that'll teach em.
