Ok I dont remember if this is true or not, but I think that I read somewhere that you can set up a no ip for hosting a zone when ever the zone changes the ip it will not affect the directory listing. I want to know if there is a way to do this and how, I am still trying to work out all of the bugs in my hosting and I restart my router for port fowarding and it changes the IP.

Maybe sign up and download this at http://www.no-ip.org/downloads.php

You host zones now? Thats new, on DSL?

i used to host on dsl. its not that bad, but it starts lagging at about 20 connections (depends on the upload rate and the settings). ping is what really matters. and having your zone on your own comp is more reliable than some crappy hosting with no name which could go down any day.

well i actually alrady downloaded that before i posted this and i could not figure where to put the url. I was thinking in the description part of the server.ini but it didnt work. I was wanting to know where do i put the link and if there were also to be bots hosted if and where can i put the link for the zone?

and yes night fox I am now starting to host zones with a business speed connection, its a low lag so far that i know of but the most people that I have had in one zone was 15 and the 56k users were not even lagging.

From what I know it should be ss://url.com in the Description area.

^-- should work...

I know Continuum -will- resolve domains to IP when it's added to the zones.dat or whatever. :/ I think the only way to make it work right is if you had your players change it manually to that ss:// ... Otherwise, yeah.

Yeah thats a big problem because it isnt static.
Screennam123 - Fri Mar 11, 2005 8:53 am
Post subject:
Well im looking into the plans that my provider has for static and im not to sure if I can afford them, so not until I have a steady flow of cash to afford it I will just have to find another location to host or just hope that the electricity will stop going out....

Just have the peeps add your no-ip address to their zone.dat file - IT WILL WORK.

It's because the directory server resolved the no-ip addy to your IP when you use it (or download from it).

Oy. no one listens! lol

Screenam, did you download this, from no-ip.com
http://www.no-ip.com/downloads.php?page=win
Screennam123 - Fri Mar 11, 2005 11:45 am
Post subject:
........yeah i downloaded that. But I think that cypher is right that all the players just have to add it the there zone.dat

if you go to the link scserver.servegame.com it will link to the same page even if there is an ip change so there is proof that I have downloaded the program.

or 99.9999999999999...% right - because I've dealt w/ this before; and I know how the directory server protocol works.
