Post subject: arena idea, flag/ball help
i was gonna post this in zone junk because its related to my arena/zone etc, but then i also have some flag/ball questions

i remember back in the days of silent death
(ive probably asked this so many times, anyone here that used to play sdeath?tongue.gif)

anyway, there was a game where both teams had a mineral transport ship, and there was a big asteroid in the center of the arena, the transporters were big and slow and volnerable to attack, so you had to protect them while they went to the asteroid, loaded up with minerals, and make sure they get back to base safely, when they dropped them off the team got a score

after a while, the team with the highest score wins
...was thinking of doing something similar, and using my silent death shipset

i was gonna use the balls as the minerals and have team bases at opposite ends of the map

i was thinking of using flags, but then problems arise, soccer balls might be better

only the transport can carry the "minerals" and after the match ends the winning team gets the jackpot....what they do with the jackpot is beyond me..but it might be a fun game.....

q1)
i can make it so only certain ships can pick up balls, can the same be done with flags?...just curious

q2) if i use the ball ( i probably will) how would i set it up so that that at the end of the match the team with highest score wins

im trying avoids bots, so if it can be done just with the cfg, then thats even better..just need some ideas getting the whole concept thought out on what i can/cant do, or what would work better for this type of gameplay

EDIT: oh, and if there does happen to be a person around who remembers silent death, mabey i can get some suggestions on ship settings close to those in sd =P

to prevent a ship from picking up the ball set it's soccerballproximity setting to zero.

you could use goals to reward your teams with points.


This game sounds a lot like that one from tw that I can't quite put my finger on... starsomething. Where you get one ship that's big per team that ships can attach to and can pick up the ball and it goes towards the enemy base rather than its own.

It's called starcon. But with the right map and settings you can make something better than starcon which is limited in its own way. Also there is a cheat you can do in that arena.

i think i remember starcon, havent been there since.......i cant even remember tongue.gif

now that you mention it, it does sound a bit similar

mabey i could add a fixed flag on top of the team bases "platforms" or "plats" as known in sd, so teams can fight over the bases tongue.gif

Yeah that would help stop people targetting the transporters only. Maybe if you control both flags for 30 seconds a bot prizes your transporter full charge or something.

Or if you don't want bots, grants enough points for full charge.

But to be really sneaky and prevent other ships from getting full charge, you can make it a special that all the other ships are allowed. Because when you buy a disallowed special it will turn into a full charge.

i was gonna try to do a buy bot type thing, and only allow certain ships when you have enough points, so you start off crap, then have to work your way up, and buy better ships and guns later

but seing as i cant really code c++, i figured i would just have every ship have the same defailt settings, but the better ships have bigger/more max settings which you have to buy..but then if you die you lose it all..so kinda defeats the aim of that idea =P
