Post subject: Question regarding the Gravity formula
Hi... I have a line of wormholes all the way across the zone on the last 5 lines of the zone. I need gravity to pulle about 7/8 of the way up the zone... all the way across. I don't understand where the formula R=1.325 * (g^.507) comes into play for gravity. Actually, I don't get the physics for CTM gravity at all. Can anyone take a stab at these two questions? I don't get the formular, and how does gravity work? icon_razz.gif

Just plug the Gravity you specify in setts into the formula, and u get the radius of the area it affects

dunno what sort of explanation ur looking for, or how that is 2 questions

Well, you could always do what I did on my physics final last year. When the numbers don't turn out right, multiply by the speed of light and everything works. (Speed of light roughly 3x10^8 m/s)

Ok, here's the wormhole expert's say:

A line of wormholes along the VERY bottom is probably not what you want. Wormholes with that great a reach will result in players not only getting pulled toward the bottom, but also getting pulled toward the center, because the gravity effect will overlap more there than on the edges.

That said, R=1.325 * (g^.507) is easy to solve for g.

You want 7/8 of the map, or 896 tiles.

896 = 1.325 * g^.507
896/1.325 = g ^.507
676.22642= g^.507
ln (676.22642) = ln (g^.507)
6.51653 = 0.507 * ln(g)
6.51653/0.507 = ln(g)
12.85311 = ln (g)
e^12.85311 = g
g = 381976

Ok, easy. Unfortunatly, that setting for gravity is too big for the game to handle. The biggest it can take is 2^(16-1) - 1 = 32767

What that means is that a wormhole in continuum can only reach across so many tiles.

R = 1.325 * 32767^.507
R = 257.954

So, it can reach a little more than 1/4 of the map.

So maybe then I could use the bottom 1/4 and the top 1/4 of the map? Also, I don't undestand the gravity speed thing. Like, It's not dragging my players down very fast at all, and it's set to about 8000. Do I not have the right idea or am I just plain missing something???

What I meant was, if I used the bottom 1/4 of the map, if I put the wormhole out of the tiles above the bottom set of womholes' reach, wouldn't it work the same? That way, people on the bottom quarter wouldn't be affected by the gravity of the top set of wormholes. err...2xPost...

What? Top wormholes? For what purpose?

Anyway, I think the gravity setting is just the radius of the gravity, not the individual acceleration. Stupid subgame.

Why do you want to do this? Artificial Gravity?

Yeah, AG... Create a Super Metroid themed 2d side scroller.
If anyone is interested I need staff. Even part time help is appreciated.
