The MachineID isn't anything being read out of your hardware. It's a value stored on your hard drive. I reinstalled Windows and was able to join T3 The Gauntlet (where I am banned in till 2016 for ballkilling).

I find it really hard to believe that reinstalling windows would circumvent a SSC ban.

yeah... you can also read the file on mervbot.com on how to avoid banG bans.

or modify mervbot to use a random macID and permID (there's a function already made that adds 1 to your macID and permID allowing you to avoid a ban once, just change it to + random value < 5000 or so) and you can get around *kills.... although that usually upsets the higher ups and it won't change you're ip address (so BanG bans will still work).

It was, much to my disapointment. The theory is that if they can bypass local bans, they can bypass netbans. And netbans have a greater chance of hurting an innocent.

Reformatting your PC does the same thing, and can sometimes be better if you have a ton of viruses tongue.gif

If you have a ton of viruses, you have already failed at the Internet. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200.

All it takes avoiding a net ban really is changing your MacID, IP (or possibly ISP) and handle, it's not quite well economicly-wise though.

Still my fav method to ban people:
Add the persons name to obcene.txt

I remember some one banned TT from his zone that way... Can't remember who it was, though.

Back to the topic.
The secret is not to post in a forum and tell everyone what you just did. Well, unless your nick is PoliX.
