Post subject: Visual Basic or C for Asp.net?
Unfortunately i need to learn Asp for a reason i wont go into. Furthermore, i accidently bought a book on asp.net that is in VB. Should i get a book that teaches asp.net in C or keep the VB one.

I guess the real question is... is there any benefit of learning VB or C in this cirumstance or not?

asp is proprietary - ie, it sucks, you shouldn't use it (just use php)
if you MUST use asp, you may as well use a language that isn't proprietary so you don't waste your time - try Perl(Script?)

bottom line: if you're taking a class that REQUIRES you to do something in ASP (with the possible exception of something entitled something like "Problem solving: forced to use stuff that sucks"), you should drop the class because it is bullshit

if you're taking the class for some reason like - I don't know - a major revolving around Microsoft Windows...then, um, go ahead and learn VBScript and be a tool

Its for my ROTC outfits website. The guy that hosts all the ROTC sites will only allow asp for god knows what reason.

Is VB good for anything?

yes, thats all .NET because that's the new stuff that's being supported widely. You can use WebMatrix to make ASP.NET sites, its free and like frontpage only with coding too. Then you can go to europe.webmatrixhosting.com and get a nice free site to test it out. Has ftp, no ads, and a SQL database

You don't need ASP for the news and schedule (definitely not for the news), just edit the HTML and CSS.
