Post subject: PriitK Directory Server
If I upload the DirServer.exe and DirServer.ini to an empty directory on my website, how do I get the DirServer.exe to be executed? Do I have to CHMOD everything including the folder itself to 777? I'd like to host a Directory Server at sss.hlrse.com. I just need the information or guide on installating and running a DS. Thanks.

Most host's do not allow for a remote -applications- to be run. I assume most of the servers that run a directory server, actually are on a dedication machine where they have access such as a remote desktop tool of some sort where they can turn on/off processes.

I suspect if you can chmod it, then the host has linux. As the DirServer.exe is a windows program I don't think it will run anyway.

And if I were a hosting company, and saw these random EXE's popping up; I'd prob kill the processes.

Oh also, I'm not sure what you're trying to do. I'm not sure how Priitk's Dir server works; but it probably doesn't do any good, if people 1.) dont add your dir server to their server.ini and/or 2.) people don't know the addr to stick into the dir listing server box.

I know catid's will grab data from the other directory servers; but...

If your host did not give you Telnet or SSH information, it is doubtful they would like you to be running programs off their servers.

Usually co-hosted servers, even this site you are currently visiting, run very hard. The CPU rarely gets hit, but the memory on servers are almost always 100%.
