ASSS Questions - Player name display

The current modes for displaying player names are 'show names of all players', 'show no names' and 'show names of all other players'.
Now imagine you want to make a zone where it's important to hide under 'fly unders'. The ships are covered by the fly under tiles but the names stick out of the hideout icon_confused.gif .
In your news.txt you could appeal to all players to use the 'show no names' mode but it's not possible to check it. Furthermore you have to use freqships so the players know who is on their team.
My suggestions:

1. Introduce a fourth mode 'no names but another small marking'. This could be a small yellow/blue dot above the ship where the turrets are located.
This way there are no more revealing names but you are still able to recognize your teammates.

2. Give the server the ability to force the clients to use one of these modes. -> Same preconditions for all.

Unfortunatly, this is a client thing, and not a server thing. Get priitk to implement it client side, and server support will be almost instant.

Only problem with that is that the chat uses the same font files. About all you could do is modify ASSS to send things like "<PUBLIC> Dr Brain> Hi guys!" with red/green chat.

Either use ?nopubchat, or with asss, set the chatmask so players never get pub chat. In a game where your enemy can be camoflaged, you don't want people in spec telling the locations in pub chat anyway.

That would solve the problem with the names but you would not be able to tell who is on your team.

Only make the blue font transparent. Team stuff is in yellow.

If you don't need public chat in your zone that would be the simplest solution.

Technically, you could make public chat be a faked chat channel message. With ASSS, you could edit the code so all public chat messages could be forward to everyone as coming from chat channel 0 or how ever you want it to.

I do believe that in Infantry the servers handles public chat as a chat catalogued in under its own category, so it may be manipulated in various forms.

Pub chat displaying as chat-channel chat would be REALLY annoying.
