Hello,
I have recently created my own server, got it up and running etc...
I'm having serious difficulties understanding map design and how it all works.
If someone could help, I would like to know how to set spawn locations on the map ( as in always respawning in the center of the map on a safety point ). I would also like to know how to set the map size...
I've been searching for this for quite some time and have never really found what I needed - If someone could help it'd be much appreciated.

OK maps are always the same size, 1024x1024 tiles.
You can set the spawn locations in the [spawn] section of your .cfg file.
I think that was all your questions .

I feel like a moron now.. hahaha - I seriously never saw that before, in the 100+ times i've looked through that .cfg file.
And there's no way to make the map smaller? I really hate having such a huge map, although now that I can set the spawn point it's not so much of an issue.

you can arrange a large box around it... using the tiles that would otherwise be used as borders...
