hello...nice new messgae baord, i just came back to ss after a couple of years and i had this good idea for a new zone, when i found out you could change all the graphics i nearly wet my pants. anyway these LVZ's are a new thing to me so i need some help, i understand the topmost and behind tiles etc etc i just have a couple of questions....
Firstly: ive made the lvz file but i dont know how to get the continuum client to actually use the lvz! IE my lvz "potnoodle.lvz" is in my server directory but i cant find anything in the server.ini that deals with lvz so when i enter my zone cont just ignores my lvz completely

i need some tips on how to best make lvz, IE should i make separate lvz for sound and graphics and ships and stuff, or can they just be one file or what?

and lastly, how come wometimes when i try to enter my test zone it wont let me in? the zone is up and everything but it just says "cant connect to game server, make sure the server is up....blah blah". this is especially annoying because i used the same files last night and it worked fine...ive changed nothing, i tried deleting user-squad and score.dat but it didnt help...

kinda feels silly me asking the questions for once, when i was once an admin on this very message board - it seems ive gone backwards to newbie status! - ahh the memories

1. http://Bob Dole.. Bob Dole... Bob Dole...... bob dole.... bob... dole.....sscentral.com/lvztut.html (4. Adding the lvz to a zone)

2. I'd make several separate lvz, because if one lvz changes, players only have to redownload that lvz. So you avoid a big download everytime something changes.

3. I don't know... hehe

o, and one more thing, about my 3rd question :
the subgame client says "client connection request from billing server ignored"

ok, ive fixed my third problem...heh, trurns out i have to readd my zone to the list everytime, dunno why maybe because i have the billing subgame and the cont client running off the same machine? IE i the client has to connect to 127.0.0.1? maybe this confuses cont somehow? anyway, ive got a new problem now.....

my lvz ini file is 110k big and my test bmp is 121k big, when i use makelevel to compile it, it shrinks to 6kb and i enter my zone and nothing...the map is the same with no "grass.bmp" in the background, just the map and black space, in subgame it says "loading potnoodle.lvz" so i dunno whats wrong...

this is what my ini file looks like:

Outfile=PotNoodle.lvz

[objectimages]
IMAGE0=grass.bmp,1,1,100

i can post the full ini if anyone wants me too...

when i use debiuld the only file in there is the .ini and not the bmp and i dunno why, ive dragged them both into makelevel

thanks in advance, im off for a lay down, my head hurts

first, download the latest lvztoolkit.zip

yours is old, makelevel.exe is not really used anymore - in the most recent one, use buildlevel.exe

for your .ini, you're missing the coordinate specifications

you want this grass.bmp to cover the entire map?

use an .ini setup like so:

Quote:
outfile=potnoodle.lvz

file=grass.bmp

[objectimages]
image0=grass.bmp

[mapobjects]
(insert output.txt coordinates)

where it says "(insert output.txt coordinates)" you should insert a long list of coordinates that you get by using tiledmajick.zip (generates coords to tile an image across an entire map)

also you might save some download time by using .jpg, .gif or .png instead of .bmp
