LVZ/LVL Questions - Creating a small LAN level.

Post subject: Creating a small LAN level.
Hi all,

I am trying to create a small level for a LAN party.

Have downloaded SSME.exe and cleared the default _bzw.lvl

Have added some stuff of my own in the centre of the map where my ship spawns which restricts the players to a smaller area so we can find each other easier.

My questions:

1. How can I make it so players and items only spawn in this area.
2. Is the rest of this level wasted? should I edit the map size somewhere?
3. names and links of good level editors.

and off topic:

1. has anyone already played in a 5-6 player LAN environment and can suggest things that worked and which everyone enjoyed?
2. Add bots to play against the human players (allows bigger levels).

Constructive comments welcome.

[Misc]
WarpRadiusLimit=distance from center in tiles that ships appear

[Prize]
MinimumVirtual=distance from center in tiles for greens/balls/flags

Have a look at template.sss in your server folder for more explanations.

The rest of the level isn't wasted, map size (excluding tileset) is proportional to the number of tiles (so don't put writing on the radar or have a thick border).

I prefer SSME, but then I'm not a mapper, what would I know?

For a LAN server, maybe put small safes around the map so people can chat without getting type killed.

Currently bots are just autoturrets that are invincable, although people have/are trying to add a damage system to mervbot. I've also tried to make a bot that flies using waypoints, but it was unsuccesful.

hi again,

Thanks for the feedback.

Will look at the areas you suggested and post back soon.

Is there a FAQ about all the sections in the template file?
Is there a FAQ about all the sections in the server.ini file?
Is there a FAQ about all the sections in the server.cfg file?

Thanks in Advance

hi,

The template should be modified or
values from template.sss added to server.ini and server.cfg?

The later seems more likely.

template.sss is well documented.

Will the game spawn a player in a wall or am I required to have a large open area to spawn in?

hopeful all this is not covered elsewhere
if it is a url would be cool

thanks.

Don't change template.sss. It is the file with all explanations. All the changes must be done in server.cfg.

Have a look at www.shanky.com/server for more information on server related issues.

Don't wory about the spawn area. CTM never spawns you in a wall.
You just might have problems if you have no empty space in your spawn area at all icon_smile.gif (I never tried this)

That's correct Doggeti. I've seen a few zones where they had a square-shaped safe area, filled with safe tiles and surrounded by un-passable tiles. What happens is, when a player is spawning, they are kicked completely outside the safe area.
